Wilmington Fire still hard at work on Thanksgiving

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As the Thanksgiving meals and football games are going on all day today, some folks are still working.

One might think it’s a bad thing to work on the holiday, but the firefighters at the Wilmington Fire Department don’t see it that way.

As families are home enjoying their Thanksgiving, the men at the fire department are hard at work, and they say they’d have it no other way.

“Working at the Fire station during any holiday is an honor,” Wilmington Fire fighter Daniel Moore said. “To be able to serve the people of Wilmington on any day is a good day but to do it on a holiday when everyone else is home with their friends and family, it’s a pleasure and honor.”

Thanksgiving is just like any other day at the fire station.

While a Thanksgiving meal cooked in the kitchen, the men at the station got in their pre-meal workout.

They were all on standby, just in case they are needed.

Obviously they’d like to be with their families today, but they know that their roles are important to the city.

“I think if it gives others a peace of mind, that’s what we’re here for,” Wilmington Master Firefighter Patrick Farwell said. “To give people a sense of comfort and to know they’re in good hands any day of the year, regardless if it’s a holiday or not.”

To all the emergency responders working on Thanksgiving, I thank you for your service. Happy Thanksgiving!
