Wilmington group looking to “fill the trailer” to help western NC

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington community is collecting donations to “Fill the Trailer” to help people in western North Carolina.

The owner of Whiskey Creek Maintenance, Jay Whiskey, came up with the idea.

He partnered with Cape Fear Presbyterian Church and JMH Trucking, which donated a 45-foot trailer, which they hope to fill as much as possible.

They’re looking for generators, winter clothes, blankets, and cleaning supplies.

Whiskey said he always tries to give back whenever he can, whether here in the Cape Fear or elsewhere in the state.

“Here at Cape Fear had the Red Cross, during one of the hurricanes, come in and set up a shelter here and I volunteered then,” Whiskey said. “And so, I just go and volunteer and kick in because I tell ya, everybody needs a helping hand.”

You can donate items at the church between 9 am and 5 pm or Whiskey will come and pick up items.

A second 45-foot trailer is in Shallotte and both will leave as part of a convoy on October 25th.
