Wilmington lodging already filling up for major events in May

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The City of Wilmington and surrounding areas are already expecting big crowds for the Wells Fargo Championship in May. But there are other events that will bring even more people to New Hanover County.

In addition to the golf tournament at Eagle Point, UNCW will be having their graduation and the convention center downtown will host the One Tree Hill convention. As a result, hotels in the area are already beginning to fill up and some families have even placed their homes on airbnb.

Kim Hufham, the President and CEO of the Wilmington and Beaches Convention and Visitors Bureau, has some advice to people looking for a place to stay.

“Well one of the things we’re trying to get the visitors to prepare for is to book early,” Hufham said. “If you haven’t made your reservations yet go ahead and do those.”

Kim Hufham says that May will be a very exciting time for the city, but it will also be a very busy one.
