Wilmington man arrested after police find drugs, stolen gun following foot chase

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man is facing multiple felony charges after officers recovered large amounts of drugs and a stolen firearm during a late-night arrest.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, around 8:25 p.m. Monday, officers were patrolling near South 10th and Queen Streets when they attempted to stop a bicyclist riding without proper lighting equipment. Police say the suspect immediately ran off, abandoning the bicycle.
Officers chased the suspect and caught him in front of a residence near 11th and Queen Streets. Police identified the man as Victor Campbell, 46, of Wilmington. During the struggle, investigators say Campbell struck an officer in the face before being taken into custody.
Police say a search revealed 72 grams of cocaine, 153 dosage units of MDMA, 43 grams of fentanyl, and a stolen firearm.
Campbell is charged with:
- Trafficking in MDA/MDMA
- Trafficking in Cocaine
- Trafficking in Opium or Heroin
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Possession of Firearm by Felon
- Possession of Stolen Firearm
- Carrying a Concealed Weapon (Gun)
- Manufacture/Sell/Deliver/Possess Controlled Substance within 1,000 Feet of a Park
- Resist/Delay/Obstruct Public Officers
- Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer
The Wilmington Police Department’s Narcotics Investigation Division and Gun Crimes Unit assisted with the investigation.
Campbell was booked into the New Hanover County Detention Center under a $1.5 million bond.
