Wilmington man arrested in online child exploitation investigation

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man has been arrested following an investigation into online child exploitation by the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation started after the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office received a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding the possession of child sexual abuse material. 

On Thursday, investigators with the Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of W. Bedford Road. 

Following the search, 58-year-old William Cutrell was taken into custody and charged with five counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and five counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

Cutrell is being held under a $200,000 secured bond at the New Hanover County Detention Facility.
