Wilmington man charged after 550 units of fentanyl recovered during arrest

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man has been arrested after he was allegedly found with 550 dosage units of fentanyl.

According to Wilmington Police, officers responded to an incident of a man smoking narcotics in public Monday at around 10:30 a.m.

After a search, officers discovered that Joshua Kelley, 44, was in possession of more than 550 dosage units of fentanyl.

Kelley was taken into custody and has been charged with possession of narcotics within 1,000 feet of a school and park, trafficking in opium or heroin, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He is currently being held under a $500,000 secured bond at the NHSO Detention Center.
