WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A 58-year-old Wilmington man charged in a deadly Bladen Street shooting appeared in court Monday morning.

During his first appearance, Michael Tyrone Loyde was appointed a capital defender, which means the case is being treated as a potential capital prosecution.

Loyde is charged with murder in the death of his wife, Ebony Boles.

Police say the shooting happened Friday afternoon at a home in 600 block of Bladen Street. Police say Loyde fled the area before officers arrived. Detectives with the Wilmington Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division and Gun Crimes Unit, along with agents from the State Bureau of Investigation, worked throughout the evening to locate him.

Officers later spotted Loyde on Castle Street.

He is being held without bond.
