Wilmington man pleads guilty to Second Degree Murder

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington man pled guilty second-degree murder and a number of other charges after fatally shooting Luis Alonso Ramirez Rodriguez back in 2022.

On October 9th, 2022, Rony Sanchez, 31, and Rodriguez, 29, were drinking, and when Rodriguez wanted to leave, Sanchez became irate, grabbed a gun, and fired several shots at Rodriguez and his friend as they tried to leave a small gathering at 346 Williamson Drive.

Rodriguez died at the hospital.

Sanchez’s gunfire struck an occupied home down the street, causing property damage.

He pled guilty to Second-Degree Murder, Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Dwelling, Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill, Breaking and Entering to Terrorize/Injure, and Assault on a Government Official.

Sanchez was sentenced to a prison term of 23-28 years
