Wilmington man wins $100,000 lottery prize

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Monday morning stop for coffee turned into a big win for on Wilmington man.
Barry Spellman stopped at the Han-Dee Hugo’s on Carolina Beach Road for his daily coffee and tickets. He spent $50 on an $8 million Money Maker scratch-off ticket and a $100,000 prize.
“I kind of freaked out,” Spellman recalled. “I was shaking.”
Spellman said his big win has not sunk in.
“I’m still just trying to process it,” he laughed.
He arrived at lottery headquarters Thursday to collect his prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $71,764.
Spellman plans to use his winnings to pay bills, invest, and take a trip to Disney World with his wife.
The $8 Million Money Maker game debuted in December with five $8 million top prizes and 10 $100,000 prizes. Four $8 million prizes and eight $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
