Wilmington Mayor warns of possible power outages
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo said citizens need to be vigilant and prepared for Hurricane Matthew.
At a New Hanover County Emergency Management meeting on Wednesday, Saffo warned of possible power outages due to the storm.
Saffo said in the event that an outage does occur, folks should stay put so the roads can be cleared. He added that the City of Wilmington is as prepared as it can be.
“Some power outages, we feel, will happen due to the fact that we’ll probably have some 50 to 60 mile an hour winds, but we’re ready to go in the event that it does happen,” Saffo said.
Saffo added that Duke Power is on standby with crews in the event of a power outage.
There will be another meeting Thursday morning to discuss the latest plans for preparing for Hurricane Matthew.
