Wilmington opens $75M affordable housing complex
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY-TV) — A new affordable housing complex opened on Monday in Wilmington. The Starway Village located at 2346 Carolina Beach Road is home to over 270 apartment units.
City officials and various partners of the project were at the ribbon cutting. Officials said the city has invested over $4 million of public funds to support the $75 million complex.
Mary De Jesús is one of the new tenants who says this affordable housing option has given her family a safe place to call their own.
“Thank you for seeing families like mine,” De Jesús said. “For reminding us that we are not forgotten and for giving us the chance to rebuild our lives with dignity and love.”
The affordable housing is open to residents who make less than $47,000 per year.
According to the complex, 102 units have been filled and over 450 application have already been received to fill the remaining apartments.
