Wilmington organization celebrates World Down Syndrome Day with community event
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)–A local Wilmington organization is helping celebrate World Down Syndrome Day.
On Saturday, Coastal Bringing Up Down Syndrome marked the occasion with a fun event for everyone at Waterline Brewing Company.
Dozens of families gathered to raise awareness by enjoying activities like face painting, games, food, and live music.
Every pint sold at Waterline Brewing Company raised $1 for the organization to support programs and services for individuals with Down syndrome and their families.
Anechia Wiggins, the organization’s board president, says events like these are important to help families and raise awareness about people with Down syndrome.
“We want to let everyone know, even though they have an extra chromosome, they are not different. We want to promote inclusion; we want something fun for them to do,” said Wiggins. “We want the community to understand they are in our workforce; they are in our schools—we are as one.”
