Wilmington organizations join forces to keep Cape Fear waters clean
NEW HANOVER COUNYT, NC (WWAY) — In Wilmington on Saturday morning, two local organizations joined forces to clean up Cape Fear waterways.
At Burnt Mill Creek, Cape Fear River Watch and Lower Cape Fear Wildlife met to collect trash and other debris both in the creek and along its waterline.
This clean-up is the first of 2024 which is an on-going effort throughout the year.
Lower Cape Fear Wildlife holds their monthly clean-ups on the first Saturday of every month while Cape Fear River Watch’s is on the second Saturday.
Rob Clark is the Water Quality Programs Manager for Cape Fear River Watch. He said it’s nice to see folks come together for a good cause.
“We just want to do our best to, kind of, help out where we can and collect it as we can,” Clark said.
Clark said Cape Fear River Watch is currently in a three-year long restoration project at Burnt Mill Creek.
