Wilmington parents charged after 2-month-old hospitalized with multiple injuries

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The parents of a 2-month-old child are facing charges after the infant was hospitalized last month with multiple serious injuries, according to Wilmington Police.
On July 3, police were dispatched to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center after a nurse reported a 9-week-old baby with a skull fracture, five broken ribs, and a broken femur. Officers took a report, notified a detective, and the Special Victims Unit contacted the Department of Social Services to assist with the investigation.
The child’s parents, Marion Hoffman III, 27, and Brittany Zito, 24, were both charged in the case. They appeared in court Wednesday, where they were assigned public defenders and each received a $300,000 bond.
Court records show Hoffman has prior convictions, including misdemeanor child abuse in 2018 and another child abuse conviction in 2021.
