Wilmington Police arrest man they say was waving a gun around on Arboretum Drive

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man has been arrested for allegedly waving a gun around in Wilmington.

On Friday afternoon just after 12:18 p.m., 911 dispatch received several calls regarding a man who was waving a gun around in the 300 block of Arboretum Drive.

Officers responded quickly to the scene and canvassed the area. They were able to locate the suspect, 31-year-old Dimitri Smith, who they say was holding a gun in his hand.

Officers convinced him to drop the weapon.

The man was taken into custody and is facing several charges including Going Armed to the Terror of the Public.

This is an ongoing investigation.
