Wilmington Police arrest murder suspect in New York following fatal shooting

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A suspect in a Wilmington homicide has been arrested in New York, according to the Wilmington Police Department. The arrest follows a shooting that happened on Friday afternoon, leaving one man dead and another critically injured.
At approximately 3 p.m. on Friday, WPD officers responded to an EMS assist call at an apartment in the 4200 block of Academy Cove. When they arrived, officers found Otis Taylor, 23, with a gunshot wound. Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man, who had also been shot, was transported to the hospital by EMS and remains in critical condition.
According to a news release, WPD detectives developed leads indicating that the suspect, Craig Lynch, 21, may have gone to New York. The WPD’s Criminal Investigation Division coordinated with partner law enforcement agencies, including the Buffalo Police Department.
On Saturday evening, Lynch was arrested by Buffalo police and charged with First Degree Murder. He will be extradited to Wilmington to face charges.
According to WPD, the shooting appears to have stemmed from a robbery involving people who knew each other.
