Wilmington Police claim man tried to ingest crack cocaine during arrest

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department has arrested a man on multiple charges following a chase.

Around 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 2, police say officers were on patrol near the 800 block of South 10th Street when they saw a man in a ski mask.

As law enforcement attempted to make contact, police say the suspect, Jazarion Vaughn, 26, ran away across Dawson Street.

Police established a perimeter along Vaughn’s path, and the K9 Unit conducted an area search. During that search, a firearm was recovered.

Police say Vaughn was apprehended a short time later at 10th and Wooster Street with crack cocaine, which he allegedly attempted to conceal and ingest during the arrest.

Vaughn has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Firearm by a Felon
  • Carrying a Concealed Weapon- Gun
  • Felony Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Littering
  • Felony Obstructing Justice
  • Resist/Delay/Obstruct Public Officers

He is currently being held without bond at the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.
