Wilmington Police Department getting ready for its 27th Demo Day

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department is preparing for its 27th Annual Demo Day.

It’s a chance for community members to come out and see equipment used by the department, as well as talk with officers.

Some of the displayed equipment will include a SWAT Bearcat, squad cars, and the bomb squad.

The department’s four-legged officers will also be there.

Department spokeswoman Sabrina Sims said it’s a great opportunity for the public to interact with officers.

“I guess it just shows officers in a new light,” Sims said. “You know, officers are here to instrict the law, or enforce the law, but they’re also here as you know, we want to engage with our community. We want to get to know you, we want to get to, you know, see how we can help you. So if you come out, and just really get to know us, you can just see them beyond the uniform and as a human.”

The event will be held from 10 am to 11 am at Wilmington Police Headquarters on Bess Street.
