Wilmington Police hold annual ‘Demo Day’
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department held its annual Demo Day on Wednesday outside police headquarters on Bess Street.
The event gives kids and adults an opportunity to see police equipment like the bomb unit, or the mobile command center.
The event coincides with the department’s Cop Camp, which runs during the month of June—and has been for more than 30 years.
Corporal Michael Scott says some youth in the past have gone on to pursue a career with the police department.
“We actually have a kid that went back to cop camp back in 2013, he actually applied to be a police officer. He’s going through that process right now to be a trainee. So hopefully we get a couple out of this group that we get in a couple years,” he said.
WPD’s Cop Camp is free and open to rising 4th, 5th, and 6th graders.
