Wilmington Police investigate officer-involved shooting of suspect
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) –According to the Wilmington Police Department, around 11:30 Friday night, officers were on patrol and observed a man riding a bike near 14th and Nun Streets wearing a ski mask.
When officers attempted to make contact, the man jumped off the bike and ran, still holding a gun.
As officers pursued, the suspect then turned toward them with the firearm. An officer then fired, striking the suspect.
The suspect, 23-year-old Savion Wilson, was taken into custody and transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
Police recovered a gun and narcotics at the scene. Wilson is facing multiple charges, including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Wilson remains in serious but stable condition. The investigation is ongoing.
