Man arrested after 8-year-old shot in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — One man is now in custody after an 8-year-old child was wounded in a shooting on Monday night.

According to Wilmington Police, officers and first responders were called to 340 S. Turners Run just after 11:15 p.m. on Monday.

Upon arrival, they found the child suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.

During the initial investigation and in speaking with people on scene it was determined that a bullet came from a neighboring apartment, traveled through a wall and hit the child.

The child was taken to the hospital to receive treatment.

Wilmington Police said Jaquan Rouse-Moody, 20, was inside a nearby apartment when his gun fired.

Rouse-Moody has been charged with Discharge Firearm Occupied Structure/Vehicle, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Discharge Firearm in a Reckless Manner.

He is being held without bond at the NHSO Detention Center.
