Wilmington police investigating shooting on Wilshire Boulevard

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington police are investigating a shooting that happened Wednesday evening on Wilshire Boulevard.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, officers responded just before 5 p.m. on Feb. 25 to a ShotSpotter activation in the 4700 block of Wilshire Boulevard.

When officers arrived, they located evidence in the roadway consistent with a shooting. Witnesses reported seeing a vehicle driving away shortly after the gunfire.

A short time later, a victim arrived at Novant Health Orthopedic Hospital on Wrightsville Avenue with a gunshot wound. The victim was later transported by EMS to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center for further treatment.

Police said the victim’s injuries appear to be non-life-threatening.

The incident is believed to be isolated and remains under active investigation.
