WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington police say they recovered multiple firearms, including stolen weapons, following a ShotSpotter alert in the Creekwood community Thursday afternoon.

Around 12:20 p.m. Wilmington Police Department officer on patrol heard several gunshots nearby, according to a department news release. Seconds later, a ShotSpotter alert confirmed gunfire in the 700 block of Emory Street and the 300 block of South Turners Run.

As officers responded, the officer already on scene saw several suspects running off. While no one was hurt, police say property damage was found on nearby vehicles and buildings.

Officers detained several individuals at the scene and recovered a stolen handgun that had been thrown on the ground. As part of the ongoing investigation, detectives with WPD’s Gun Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at an apartment in the 300 block of South Turners Run, which was connected to the initial incident.

The search led to the seizure of six handguns and an AR-14 style pistol. Police say three of the eight guns recovered during the investigation had been reported stolen.

Cam’ron Randolph Williams, 18, of Wilmington, is facing felony drug charges and was given a $20,000 secured bond. Police say several juveniles are also facing charges related to the incident.
