Wilmington Police use donated quilts to keep people warm

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Several Wilmington Police cruisers will now be equipped with more than the standard equipment to help fight crime. Police can now help fight the cold and bundle people up as the temperatures fall.

The local chapter of the American Sewing Guild donated dozens of quilts for police to carry in their cruisers and pass out as they see needed. Jim Varrone says the donation shows the good in people.

“It gives me a sense of hope,” Capt. Varrone said. “Having done this for so many years, you see so many bad things in this profession and to me it was a great act of kindness.”

Capt. Varrone says the department is expecting to receive even more quilts from the American Sewing Guild as winter approaches.
