Wilmington potential future host of Tall Ships Festival
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Port City could be the new home to a Tall Ships Festival one day. One group is hoping that it could one day be a reality.
Wilmington Harbor Enhancement Trust arranged for a presentation tonight to talk about what being a tall ship’s host port would mean to our community.
The meeting included a conversation with a spokeswoman from ‘Tall Ships America’ about bringing ships to Wilmington in May of 2018 for community members and visitors to board and enjoy.
Organizers hope this kind of festival could bring more business from ship lovers to the Port City.
Tall Ships America Director of Special Projects, Patti Lock said, “It’s all about tourism, economic impact. The retailers love it. They fill the bars. People come down, they enjoy the festival, and then they stay and they spend some time downtown.”
About two dozen people attended the meeting , with most agreeing they want to pursue an event to bring tall ships to Wilmington.
