Wilmington protesters join nationwide ‘No Kings Day’ rallies

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)– Protesters gathered in Wilmington on Saturday as part of a nationwide “No Kings Day” of action opposing President Donald Trump’s administration and policies.

At Innes Park, the streets of downtown Wilmington were flooded with protestors, signs, and speakers as cars passed honking.

The rally in Wilmington, is one of many that occurred all throughout the country.

Participants protested the conflicts in Iran, ICE, and even local problems, like the officer-involved shooting that happened in parking garage on Market Street. The shooting led to the death of Edilberto Espinoza Sierra, who his family says was innocent, despite him being involved in a fight before the shooting. According to public records, Sierra did have a pending court case that was set for December, but despite past involvements with the law, his father says it had nothing to do with the fight that happened.

“My son has never been guilty of any crime,” said the father of Sierra.

Many also protested other issues, like the war in Ukraine, and concerns of nuclear war. That is one worry 10-year-old Lucas had. Lucas attended his very first rally and thinks that it’s important for someone his age to speak up.

“This is a crossed-out nuke on my sign, because I don’t want there to be nuclear war. I am glad to be here, it’s fun. I’ve wanted to come to one of these for a while, and my mom said she would take me. It makes me feel really good,” said Lucas.
