Wilmington-shot ‘Secrets & Lies’ premieres Sunday night on WWAY
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Sunday night, a locally-shot crime drama premiers on ABC and WWAY.
"Secrets and Lies" started shooting in the area a year ago.
Everyone has secrets and lies, says actress Juliette Lewis. She plays Det. Andrea Cornell in the ABC drama "Secrets and Lies" alongside Ryan Phillippe, who plays Nen Crawford.
The TV series was filmed all across southeastern North Carolina last year. If you watch, you can spot some familiar locations and familiar faces. WWAY's very own Sara Hopkins plays a role in the show that was close to reality.
"I played one of the reporters, so it wasn't too far away from what I actually do, so I really didn't have to act that much, but this was my first time actually having to do any kind of film work or anything like that," Hopkins said. "It was a whole new experience."
For 10 episodes this crime drama will play out with suspenseful twists along the way.
Jory Anderson, a Wilmington resident, was a stand-in and photo double for Phillippe. He says how you can find extended clips and interviews already online.
"Like Ryan's point of view through the story," Anderson said. "He finds a dead kid in the woods, and then they spend the whole season to figure out whether it was him or who it could be, and he's the primary suspect to start. It just goes through a list of people. It's basically very fascinating and intense."
Anderson says "Secrets and Lies" is completely different than your typical murder mystery show.
"They aren't solving one murder a day," Anderson said. "You know this is a whole process diving into someone's life and really disrupting their daily schedule."
So did he do it?
"I can't tell you that," Anderson said. "Expect the unexpected is what I would say. I can't tell you. You have to watch. You have to watch!"
"Secrets and Lies" airs Sundays at 9 p.m. right here on ABC and WWAY.
