Wilmington Symphony Orchestra is looking for a new well-rounded music director

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Symphony Orchestra is on the hunt for a new music director but the person taking over the role will have very big shoes to fill.

Dr. Steven Errante has been the artistic director for the past 39 years. This will be his last season which is the 53rd season for the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra.

Liz Scanlon is the orchestra’s executive director. She says they’re looking for a well-rounded individual to fill the position who will hopefully help bring the program to higher levels.

“We are looking for someone who will help the orchestra become artistically excellent, which is something that Dr. Errante has spent 39 years doing. But we are hoping that a new music director will take them to a new level,” Scanlon said.

Scanlon adds to help commemorate Dr. Errante in his last season he will include numerous individuals who are close to him. Including a young emerging artist whose grandmother was in the orchestra. Errante will end the last concert with a composition that he wrote.

The season opens October 5th and individual tickets can be bought starting August 5th at Cape Fear Community College’s Wilson Center.
