Wilmington teenager launches jewelry line to help battle eating disorders
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Millions of Americans struggle with eating disorders and have their own ways to cope and work past it. One young lady is using a difficult time in her past to help others, with her jewelry.
Meet Kate Redenbaugh, a Wilmington local who founded the company, Unlocked.
She hand-makes jewelry from “up-cycled” keys and each silver or gold key is inscribed with a powerful word.
Redenbaugh says she’s using her hard past to bring joy to others.
“When you go through something hard, you have two choices. You can either turn away and let it defeat you or you can go and do something about it,” Redenbaugh said. She continued saying, “I think that going through an eating disorder was very difficult for me. I want to channel my experiences and use them to put good back into the world.”
25% of the profit will go to the National Eating Disorder Association.
