Wilmington tree planting event taking place Saturday

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Another tree event is coming to Wilmington this weekend.
A tree planting is happening Saturday from 9:00 a.m. through 12:00 p.m.
60 to 80 trees will be planted, with volunteers being dispatched throughout Wilmington’s Southside to plant trees on sites that have been previously approved by property owners and the City’s forestry management staff.
“The benefits of trees go well beyond beauty. A healthy tree canopy provides shade and cools the city, absorbs carbon and pollutants, improves mental health, and mitigates stormwater runoff and erosion keeping our waterways clean,” said Dan Camacho, executive director of the Alliance for Cape Fear Trees.
The Alliance has hosted several tree giveaways on Wilmington’s Northside, and planted trees in Houston Moore, Hillcrest and Rankin Terrace.
