Wilmington vein specialist weighs in on President Trump’s recent diagnosis

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington vein specialist is offering insight after former President Donald Trump was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a common condition that causes leg swelling and poor blood flow.
Dr. Kamran Goudarzi, founder of Scarless Vein Care in Wilmington, said the condition is one he frequently sees in his practice, affecting nearly half of his patients.
Dr. Goudarzi believes Trump’s symptoms were likely worsened by frequent air travel and says others, especially those who travel often or spend long hours on their feet, should be aware of warning signs.
“Go ahead and see your local doctor and see if they can make a diagnosis, or a vein specialist who can tell you if you have it or you don’t,” Goudarzi said. “There’s quite a few things you can do to slow down the disease and stop the complications.”
Goudarzi said treatment options include wearing compression stockings, specially for pregnant patients, exercising, staying active, and avoiding smoking. However, he noted that genetics play a major role in developing the disease.
“If your parents have it,” Goudarzi said, “chances are you will get it too.”
