Wilmington Woman handmakes her Halloween decorations

"Every year, I do a theme of a movie. This year was 13 Ghosts."

WILMINGTON (WWAY) — If you spent a lot this year on Halloween decorations, you’re not alone. The holiday inspires many people to decorate their homes. Halloween night, kids are trick or treating.

“Be sure to stay safe out there trick-or-treating,” Nezi Bass said.

However, this neighborhood has a home that’s gaining a lot of attention. Jacey Roger’s turning her home into a house of horrors every Halloween.

“Every year, I do a theme of a movie. This year was 13 Ghosts,” Rogers said.

And she tries to be the best house on the block, but there’s stiff competition across the street. Her many decorations come with an early set-up.

“Halloween is my biggest one. So, I usually start that in June/August, but I’m still putting stuff out like the last week before,” Rogers said. “Families have come through and said, ‘We were so excited to see you start the progress.'”

What’s unique about Roger’s set-up is it’s all made by hand, with most of it being spray foam.

“But they see I hand make it all. From the bodies to the face,” Rogers explained.

She showed WWAY what decorations were her favorites.

“So, this one is hands down one of my favorites. He’s made out of foam but, also mop heads. I used to put the candy in the middle for the kids, and they were scared to death to get any,” Rogers said. “The Jeckle is also one of my favorites. She’s crazy. She’s from an insane asylum. So, I put pieces of wood around it to make it seem like she’s in her metal box.”

For the past seven years, she’s been crafting and creating for one day on the calendar. Something you won’t see at any other home.

“People keep coming by every year, and they say this is our favorite house to come by every single time [it] makes me do it more and more,” Rogers said.

Rogers did a beetle juice theme last year, but she’s always turning her ear to the community for more suggestions.
