Wilmington woman held on $1 million bond and charged with child abuse

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington woman is being held on a $1 million secured bond after being arrested and charged with felony child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury.

33-year-old, Shanequa Tacasia Vereen was arrested on December 1st.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, they received a referral from the Department of Social Services and started an investigation.

Court documents say that on November 24th, Vereen assaulted a 13-year-old leaving a “large puncture wound to right upper thigh.” Documents go on to say that Vereen is the parent of the victim.

Vereen appeared in court on December 1st and waived her right to assigned counsel.

If Vereen were to make bond, documents say she is to have no contact with any minor children while the case is pending.
