Wilmington woman to use lottery money to buy new SUV

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington resident Adraine Dixon-Wilkins says she plans to buy a new SUV after matching all five numbers in the May 19 Carolina Cash 5 drawing to win the $221,306 jackpot.

“I’ve wanted to get something big enough to drive my grandkids around in,” Dixon-Wilkins said. “And now I can. I’m happy I won. It feels pretty good.”

Dixon-Wilkins purchased the lucky Quick Pick ticket at the Gas Center on North College Road in Wilmington. After state and federal taxes were withheld, she collected a check for $153,254.

The jackpot for the Wednesday evening’s Cash 5 drawing is $154,000. Odds of winning a Cash 5 jackpot are 1 in 575,757.

Ticket sales made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion for the state last year. North Carolina Education Lottery net proceeds will be used this year to help pay salaries of teachers and teacher assistants, for pre-kindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, school construction and repair, and need-based college scholarships and financial aid.
