Wilmington’s Alex Highsmith awarded Key to the City

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WXOW) – One of Wilmington’s own was given a massive honor on Friday.
Ashley graduate Alex Highsmith, currently entering year six on the Pittsburgh Steelers, was awarded the Key to the City by Mayor Bill Saffo.
The ceremony outside City Hall coincides with the Azalea Festival, which Highsmith says he tries to come back to every year.
Highsmith tells WWAY that his platform allows him to pay it forward and inspire other young athletes in his hometown.
