Wings Up Player Profiles: Chris Flemmings

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Chris Flemmings is one of two seniors who have only been with the Seahawks for two seasons.

But he doesn’t let his time in the Port City equate to a lack of production on the court.

Flemmings has been a major weapon for the Seahawks roster this season averaging 15 points a game for the team in teal.

He can shoot it beyond the arc, mid range, and take it to the hole.

Flemmings has been known to give that Draymond Green flex after taking a foul, and like Draymond, he brings a special element to this team.

“Versatility,” Flemmings said. “Being able to guard guards and drop down and guard post players some games. Whatever is needed.”

That unselfishness has helped his team finish the year with back to back titles in the CAA.

And now, they’re heading back to the big dance, with an ACC opponent in their sights, just like last year.

“It was pretty exciting but once the game started it was strictly business,” Flemmings said. “No more fun, I was just trying to go out there, play hard as I could and win.”

Flemmings did a lot of winning last season, as a team as well as individually — All CAA Player and Tournament MVP.

Countless player of the week honors, and plenty of big plays, but he kept his focus week in and week out.

“I didn’t really think about it going through the year, I was just focused on who our next opponent was staying prepared and working out in the gym,” Flemmings said. “I didn’t really think about it at all.”

The success last season is very similar to the success that Flemmings and the Seahawks are having this season, and for him it all comes from one place.

“Definitely the support of my teammates,” Flemmings said. “We play well together, they definitely had my back in the times that I was struggling. They didn’t get down on me, they just kept me going.”

Those same teammates, along with Flemmings, remember how last season ended, but they’re not afraid going back into March Madness. They’re ready for the challenge.

“I think if anything it’s just motivation to get back there and definitely win, not just play one game and leave,” Flemmings said.

UNCW takes on UVA this Thursday at 12:40 p.m. The game will be broadcast on truTV.
