Wings Up Player Profiles: Chuck Ogbodo

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Now in his senior season, Chuck Ogbodo is seeing exactly what it’s like to be a big man on campus.

But he also knows that there’s a certain responsibility that being an upperclassmen brings along with it.

“I appreciate what I have right now because I know a lot of people that being in my position, handled it really well,” Ogbodo said. “But I pray and I wish that this person that I am will help the guys under me to go towards the right path.”

And he has his team heading in the right direction this season under his veteran leadership.

Chuck Ogbodo, the big man in the middle came to UNCW four years ago.

In that time he has brought home two CAA titles, tallied nearly 200 career points and experienced what it’s like to play on the big stage.

But he continues to look for ways to get better and help the team.

“The mental aspect of it,” Ogbodo said. “That is what I need to focus on.”

The Seahawks have a loaded roster, a pick your poison type of team, with plenty of all-star talent, especially at the guard position.

But Chuck knows his role is vital and doesn’t let that take away from helping the team succeed.

“Nah, it doesn’t put any pressure on me as far as we’re working together as a team,” Ogbodo said.

Chuck is a leader. Many players have said the big #13 is one that drives them the most.

So who drives Chuck?

“I would say Marcus Bryan because he’s one of the toughest guys to guard in practice because he can shoot the ball,” Ogbodo said. “He can drive it and he can post up. You don’t always see those things in one player and he’s a really good player to guard in practice.”

Alongside Chuck, UNCW has the loaded roster and the coach to make some noise in the big dance.

Bringing home that hardware in the NCAA Tournament in his senior season is exactly what Chuck is focused on to finish up the year.

“It drives me and it drives the team because like coach always says, he wants to win a championship not only for the guys staying but also for the guys leaving,” Ogbodo said. “So it would mean a lot for us seniors that are leaving to also have something we will leave with.”

UNCW takes on UVA this Thursday at 12:40 p.m. The game will be broadcast on truTV.
