Wings Up Player Profiles: Jordon Talley
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Jordon Talley, the guard from Richmond, Virginia, already has two CAA titles under his belt.
Now in his third year he is expected to be a leader, but that doesn’t bring any pressure to Talley.
“Yes, there’s no pressure though, but yes I get the sense of being more of a leader,” Talley said. “Just pushing everybody. Just get the best out everybody each and every day.”
His role as a leader has definitely been paying off.
This season Talley and the Seahawks are off to the best season of his career by far, but this year hasn’t all been great for Talley.
Talley was suspended indefinitely from the Seahawks Men’s Basketball program in November 2016.
But even the suspension has not slowed him down.
Since returning, Talley has made himself a nice role on the team, leading them to the top of the CAA.
“It’s harder to stay at the top, so we know we have to work harder now this year because people know what we got and they expect us to be good,” Talley said. “We just have to take that punch.”
In his absence the team had to turn to other guards, which only made them stronger.
“I think that honestly it’s going to make us better as a team because we are going to push each other each and every day in practice, so we have no choice but to be better,” Talley said.
If you watched any games this season you’ve seen Jordon doing some talking on the court.
“Just Richmond, just playing it back home,” Talley said. “It’s how we play back at home. We always compete talk a little bit and just play basketball.”
But his talking is as much strategic as it is leading.
“It plays a lot,” Talley said. “I mean you talk to them a little bit, talk to the other team a little bit, get under their skin so maybe they miss the next shot because they think about you and not what they’re supposed to do.”
In a season that started off difficult for Talley, he and his team have a chance to be great, but it’s going to be on the entire team, not just one player, to take that next step.
“I think we have the pieces to maybe even improve from what we did last year and take the next step and actually win a tournament game or something like that, this year and the near future.”
UNCW takes on UVA this Thursday at 12:40 p.m. The game will be broadcast on truTV.
