Winter Park teacher nominated AIG teacher of the year

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Tara Mulvey has been nominated as the 2016-2017 New Hanover County Schools Gifted Education Teacher of the Year according to New Hanover County School’s Public Relations Department.
Mrs. Mulvey is the Gifted Education Specialist at Winter Park Elementary School. She will be notified in January 2017 if she is a state finalist. She will also attend the North Carolina Association for Gifted and Talented’s (NCGAT) 43rd Annual Conference in Winston-Salem in March where the state Gifted Education Teacher of the year will be announced.
According to a press release sent by NHCS public relations, NCAGT’s “Teacher of the Gifted” Award is presented annually to a North Carolina teacher of gifted children who exhibits a strong commitment to gifted education. Each nominee submits an essay elaborating on one aspect in gifted education that is important to them. Ms. Mulvey wrote about a topic close to her heart that dealt with nurturing the potential gifts in all students.
Being at a Title I school, she is aware that students come to school with different experiences and abilities. She works closely with her staff to provide creative and critical thinking opportunities for all students.
