With 50 years of results, Historic Wilmington Foundation changed the preservation conversation

WILMINGTON, NC (StarNews) — The count isn’t exact, but according to executive director George Edwards, the Historic Wilmington Foundation has saved more than 110 historic Port City buildings.

It’s a fact worth celebrating as the group celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2016.

“People come from all across the state, and even the country, to see our Historic District,” said Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo. He credits the Historic Wilmington Foundation with preserving much of the fabric of the community after a wave of demolitions in the 1960s and ’70s.
