WMPO committee discussing new steps to make area roads safer
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee met Tuesday to discuss new steps to make Wilmington roads safer for walkers and cyclists.
The committee looked at areas it would consider for the Metropolitan Transportation Plan, also known as Cape Fear Moving Forward 2050.
That plan will guide federal, state, and local governments on transportation projects in the region.
Tuesday’s discussions included ways to maintain and increase infrastructure for bikes and pedestrians and how to help drivers be more aware in areas where a lot of people are walking or on bikes.
Cape Fear Moving Forward 2050 will be finalized by the WMPO by June of 2025 and implemented by November of 2025.
