Woman behind patriotic viral video says Memorial Day tribute ‘touched my heart’

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A viral video with a Memorial Day message is making the rounds on social media. The video shows a man singing ‘God Bless America’ at the Monkey Junction Walmart this past weekend.

“Suddenly my husband hears this guy singing,” said Barbie Clancy, the woman who first posted the viral video.

Clancy said she had just stopped in to run some errands with her family, but what she heard warmed her heart.

“It really touched my heart because my son is in the Navy, I have a son-in-law in the Air Force and a son-in-law in the Navy as well and my husband is a veteran from the Army,” said Clancy.

She said she was overwhelmed by the man’s display in honor of our veterans.

“I think it’s something that America needs, to see that people do still love America,” Clancy said.

She said the musical man has been reported singing in places all over the Port City and someone even said they saw him in Greensboro.

“Some people said he’s not a veteran and some people say he is and it doesn’t matter if he is or he isn’t,” Clancy said.

She said his tribute helped to remind people what Memorial Day is really all about.

“Today is the day that we remember all of the service members that have died in the line of battle, that fallen, that have fought and died for their country,” Clancy said.

Clancy encourages everyone to take a moment today to give thanks to those who paid the ultimate price to protect our freedoms.
