Woman charged with DWI after pedestrian killed in crash

JACKSONVILLE, NC (AP) — Authorities say a 22-year-old driver is facing charges after a pedestrian was killed in a crash in Onslow County.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol says 22-year-old Danielle Smith was charged Saturday with felony death by motor vehicle, driving while impaired and careless and reckless driving.

Authorities say Smith was driving before 1 a.m. Saturday near Hideaway Lounge and Sports Bar when she hit 26-year-old Robert Scott DeGennaro with her car.

DeGennaro later died at a hospital. Officials say Smith’s blood alcohol content was .10. The legal limit is .08.

Smith was expected in bond court on Monday, and it wasn’t known if she had an attorney.
