Woman dies after surfers pull her from ocean in Wrightsville Beach
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A woman died after being pulled unconscious from the Wrightsville Beach surf Saturday.
Monday, Wrightsville Beach Police Chief Dan House says it was 52-year-old Kerry Sullivan of Cary, who was at the beach with her family.
House said surfers saw that she was in distress and use their surfboards to bring her into shore. House said it happened near Beach Access 36.
Law enforcement says based on statements they believe it was a drowning, but cannot confirm at this time.
People on the beach performed CPR until Wrightsville Beach Ocean Rescue and other emergency responders arrived and took over efforts to revive her.
This wasn’t the only death reported along our area beaches over the weeken. Two good Samaritans died while saving a father and daughter in the ocean in Carolina Beach Saturday.
