Woman pleads guilty to voluntary manslaughter in sister’s death
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A woman is going to prison after pleading guilty for her sister’s death.
Joyce Goldberg plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter for shooting her sister Glenda Bordeaux at Golderberg’s condo in Carolina Beach in 2014.
Prosecutors said Goldberg had just finished treatment for Lung Cancer. She was coming off of her medication in 2013.
On April 1, 2014, prosecutors said Bordeaux had spent the night with Goldberg, because she was not feeling good. Prosecutors said Bordeaux took Godlberg’s dog for a walk that morning. When she came back, they said the door to Goldberg’s condo was locked.
After Bordeaux rang the doorbell, prosecutors said Goldberg opened the door and shot Bordeaux. They said Goldberg’s husband began CPR while calling 911.
Goldberg’s attorney said she had been experiencing psychosis from coming off of Prednisone. Goldberg reportedly was seeing demons and was paranoid about having a home invasion.
Today, Goldberg entered a plea deal. Prosecutors dropped her first degree murder charge to voluntary manslaughter.
The judge sentenced Goldberg to at least five to seven and a half years in prison.
