Woodburn Presbyterian marks the fourth Sunday of Advent with special service
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Sunday marks the fourth Sunday of Advent for Christians around the world in the lead up to Christmas on Wednesday. Many churches in our area celebrated with special services.
Woodburn Presbyterian Church in Lelend marked the occasion with a special presentation titled “Foretold,” which tells the story of the prophet Isaiah, who Christians believe foretold the birth of Jesus Christ.
The service featured special live performances, and the lighting of the Christ Candle, which symbolizes the light of Jesus’ birth.
Elder John Crowder leads the church’s choir and the special service.
He says the presentation tells a story many Christians may not know.
“A lot of people don’t understand that Isaiah actually foretold the birth of Christ 250 years before the birth of Christ,” he said.
Many Christians will also celebrate the anticipation of Christmas with a midnight mass on Christmas Eve, though Crowder says Woodburn won’t be hosting a night service this year.
