World War II veteran checks out B-29
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — You might say a 97-year-old World War II veteran took the ride of a lifetime today. Except he’s taken it many times before.
Paul Myers piloted a B-29 bomber during the war. Today he got to check one out again.
The B-29 was also used in the Korean War back in the 1950’s and was a staple of the US Air Force.
“FIFI”, one of two of the so-called flying Superfortress still flying is at Wilmington International Airport for the weekend.
Along with other aircraft as part of the airpower history tour.
Myers says seeing it brings back many memories.
“It’s really a thrill to get back here and especially climb through my dear old B-29 and see how it has changed inside,” Myers said.
The event is happening all weekend long at ILM.
