WPD: 2 cab drivers robbed at gunpoint Saturday night


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police are investigating an armed robbery involving two cab drivers Saturday night.

Wilmington Police said it happened around 11:00 p.m. Saturday on Covil Ave.

Police said the first cab responded to Covil Ave. to pick up a fare. A man got into the cab and asked to go to Progress 910. Police said, on the way, he asked the cab driver to go back to Covil Ave, because he forgot something.

The cab driver was on Market St. as he turned around. Police said as they pulled onto Covil Ave., the passenger pulled a gun out and said hand it over. The cab driver gave what he had but the suspect wanted more.

The cab driver called for another cab driver and when he arrived the passenger pulled the gun on the second cab driver.

The suspect ran towards Market St. He is described as a black male in his mid 20’s, wearing a gray hoodie, blue Jeans, and black gloves.
