WPD Checkpoint leads to 71 charges


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — According to Wilmington Police Spokeswoman Linda Rawley, the WPD traffic unit had a DWI checkpoint at the intersection of Market Street and 15th Street last night in Wilmington.

The checkpoint was in place from 11:00 pm through 3:00 am. Rawley said it was a multi-agency operation. Agencies from New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, Onslow County Sheriff’s Office, State Highway Patrol, and DMV assisted.

Officials say there were a total of 71 charges resulting from the checkpoint, including 10 DWI offenses.
