WPD: Gun discharges, woman killed, man charged with manslaughter

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A 20-year-old woman has died following an apparent accidental shooting in Wilmington on Thursday night, according to a news release from Wilmington Police Department.

Officers responded to the 300 block of Campus Cove just after 7 p.m., where a firearm was discharged after it was thought to have been unloaded. When police arrived, they found the woman, identified as Skyler Pattillo, suffering from life-threatening injuries. She was transported to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where she later died.

Police have charged Triston Spencer, 21, of Wilmington, with involuntary manslaughter. He is being held under a $150,000 bond.

The incident remains under investigation.
